Wow, we made it through our first rehearsal at Pacifica - congratulations to our fabulous crew - the set looks great! And congratulations to our fabulous performers - you look and sound wonderful (altho if you were just a LITTLE louder, you would make me soooooo happy - don't forget Aunt Edna has to hear you in the back row).

THANK YOU FOR NOT RUNNING IN THE THEATER!!!!! I was so proud of you last night. I was also very happy that everyone left my chasers and black lights alone. Just remember, you need to be very quiet (just not when you're singing)

A few quick reminders - please check your costume box to make sure that you have all your items. A few of our performers came out without shirts/skirts (Don't worry parents,  they had on clothes, just not the ones we expected to see). Please mark every costume piece with the performer's name (things get put into the wrong costume box every once in a while).

and now some notes from our sponsors:

Just a few reminders and updates:
Families are invited to watch the final Dress Rehearsal this Thursday, April 14th beginning at 5:30 pm. A $5 donation (per person) is suggested.
If you have not yet ordered your tickets, flower or candy gram, or DVD of the show - you can do this through the www.pvef.org site this week

Well, it's almost show time. Palms are sweaty, stomachs swirling with butterflies - and that's just the parents!

We have one more rehearsal at the CRS/old library, and then it's on to tech week. This post is going to be lengthy, but it should have everything you need to know about this next week.

    Final Week Rehearsal Schedule

Tuesday, April 12, 2011: Arrive at 4:00 pm and Pick up at 8:00 pm

Wednesday, April 13, 2011: Arrive at 4:00 pm and Pick up at 8:00 pm

Thursday, April 14, 2011: Arrive at 4:00 pm and Pick up at 8:00 pm

    Performance Days

Friday, April 15, 2011: Arrive at 5:30 pm and Pick up at 9:15 pm

Saturday, (Matinee) April 16, 2011: Arrive at 11:30 am and Pick up at 3:15 pm

Saturday, (Night) April 16, 2011: Arrive at 5:30 pm and pick up at 9:15 pm

If you have been instructed to arrive earlier for make-up requirements, please do so!

Driving Directions to Pacifica High School

Take the 101 freeway north to Rose Ave. Turn left at the light and go over the freeway. Turn right
on Gonzales. It is best to veer right once you turn onto Rose. About a mile down Gonzales,
the high school will be on the left. If you go over the railroad tracks and cross

    Oxnard Blvd ,
you went too far. Drive by most of the school until you reach the street Entrada. Turn left on
Entrada. Drive around to the back parking lot behind the theatre. Performers will check in at the
back courtyard. All performers must officially check in.

    Check-in Procedures

An adult MUST sign all performers in and sign all performers out. Do not attempt to bypass this
procedure. Performers will be directed to their dressing areas where their costume boxes will be
left during rehearsal. Children will report to the auditorium area. The directors will then give
    instructions

    Behavior at the Theater

We expect all children to show respect to the adults in charge and to the other children. There
is to be no physical contact, bullying, teasing, or inappropriate language used at the theater.
Children who behave inappropriately will not be allowed to perform.

NO RUNNING IN THE THEATER!!!! SHOES MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES!

    What performers need to bring

Performers need to come to the theater dressed in their first costume. Also, costume box
should be brought loaded with the other costumes, make-up, shoes, water bottles, and a sack
dinner. Please make sure all clothing and make-up items are clearly labeled. Mailing labels work
well for this. Make sure all make-up, including hairbrushes, are secured in a large plastic zip-
lock bag. To prevent soiling costumes, place shoes and make-up in zip-lock bags.

    Costumes

Please make sure your child has all of his/her costume pieces before rehearsals end on Saturday,
April 9, 2011. A good method to keep up with costumes is to write the number of pieces for each
costume on the inside lid of the costume box. Performers should get in the habit of counting all
pieces after putting on and taking off costumes. If a piece of costume is lost or missing, the
earlier CineMagic staff is informed, the better chance the situation can be rectified.

Remember to send your child in his/her first costume with hair and makeup for their first number.

If absolutely necessary, she/he can change into his/her first costume at the theatre. Your child should wear proper undergarments (cami and bike shorts)
There is one large dressing room for boys and one large dressing room for girls. There are no
    individual dressing rooms.

    Dropping off items to performers:

No one is allowed into the theater area except performers and adults who have signed up to
work backstage. If you need to drop something off to your child, such as dinner or other items,
please place everything in a bag with your child’s name on it. A runner will make sure it gets
to your child. Please send your child with at least two water bottles every day. There are no
drinking fountains at the theater. Please make sure all food is adequately packaged to prevent
    soiling costumes.

    Eating at the Theater:

Performers are not allowed to eat in the classrooms. All eating will take place in the outside
courtyard. There will be tables and chairs. Performers will eat during intermission or any time
they are done with their song and have no other time critical obligations, i.e. hair and make-up.
Children will find time to eat. Food dropped off by parents must be clearly labeled with the
performer’s name. Please send children with plenty of water.

    Hair and Make-up

Please help your child apply their own basic make-up, particularly around the eyes and lips. Any
special make-up will be done by our Hair and Make-Up Department. Hair should be styled at
home for the Act I’s song. Please send hair clips and hair bands with your children, as well as a
brush. No child should share his/her hairbrush and/or comb.

    Tickets

If you have not yet purchased your tickets - you can purchase them online by going to pvef.org and clicking on CineMagic 2011.

Follow the link to the ticketing website where you can select your seats for the performance of your choice!

Thank you so much for your support!

These notes are very important and deserved their own little post.

Tuesday April 12th is the start to tech week. For those of you who are new, there are important things to know (for those of you who are returning, listen anyway).

NO RUNNING IN THE THEATER! It's dangerous, and it makes Joe grumpy

Please wear shoes in the theater (on stage and off). No matter how careful we are, there are always loose screws/nails in odd places. Tech week is very busy, and we just don't have time to take you to the emergency room.

No eating/drinking in the theater or the classrooms. There will be designated food/beverages areas at pacifica (no, I don't know where they are. Hopefully someone does).

Please bring your costume box (with your costumes/hair and make up bags, a sack lunch and two bottles of water). DO NOT SHARE YOUR BRUSH OR MAKEUP! (Because ewwwwwwww)

Please bring your homework. There is plenty of "down" time during tech week, and you need to get your homework done. If you don't do your homework, you can't come back next year (for those of you aging out, do your homework anyway. Because I said so, that's why).

PLEASE BE QUIET in the backstage areas. Yes, it's tech week, but you need to get in the habit of behaving as if there is an audience. Please be respectful towards each other, and the adults who are volunteering to help.

and last, don't run with scissors. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye....then it's WAR.

so much for blogging on a regular basis. those who know me may be shocked, but I just haven't had anything to say.

Here we are, in the last week of rehearsals at the CRS. The kids are doing amazing work - you should all be proud. While we all know that illnesses and emergencies can't be scheduled, please TRY to attend all the remaining rehearsals.

Saturday is our last day at the CRS, and I'm already a little sad (even tho I'm sooooo excited about the show)

Which takes us into tech week at Pacifica. Monday CineMagic will be "dark" meaning that there won't be any rehearsals. Rest while you can, because tech week is a little crazy. If you haven't already volunteered, (and even if you have) please check the volunteer board. We are still looking for help. Invite your friends and neighbors (you can ask people you don't like to work on the day you won't be there). No experience necessary (trust me, there are plenty of people to tell you where to go and what to do).

This saturday, March 12th, is our first dress rehearsal.

CineMagicians should arrive at the theater 5-10 minutes before their number in their first costume, with hair and makeup complete (but with performance shoes in hand). If (like my daughter) your child has left their costume box at the CRS, please have them bring it home! If (like my daughter's mother) you are hopeless with hair and makeup, please come earlier and our fabulous hair/makeup team will be happy to assist you!

Here is a link to the new rehearsal schedule which starts this Saturday:

Cinemagic Rehearsal Schedule beginning March 12.doc

By now your child should have a costume box. The box, and every item in it, should be clearly marked with the performer's name (including their shoes). The easiest way to mark costume items is with pieces of masking tape. The box should contain all costume pieces, required makeup (as on the makeup list), hairbrush and comb, bobby pins, rubberbands which most closely match your child's hair, and 1-2 bottles of water.

AGAIN, EVERY ITEM IN THE PERFORMER'S BOX SHOULD BE MARKED WITH HIS/HER NAME.

Please, please stress to your child(ren) that makeup and brushes should not be shared (because ewwwwww).

Tomorrow, Saturday March 5th is costume check day. Please have your child(ren) arrive to rehearsal wearing their costume. Our costume staff will be there to make an alterations.

******Performance shoes should only be worn in the theater/rehearsal space*******

We are in the process of finalizing our program. Please contact your song captain to verify the proper spelling of your CineMagician's name.

here's a link to the hair/makeup requirements for each number. Each Cinemagic should have a ziplock bag of items, clearly marked with his/her name

    hair and makeup.docx

Please remind your child(ren) not to share any hair or makeup items (because. EWWWWW)

Our makeup team will cheerfully accept your donations of makeup sponges and baby wipes

And last, but by no means least, a dose of guilt to start the weekend. We are in desperate need of volunteers. Please, please PLEASE help. The success or (gasp) failure of this program depends on you (yes, YOU the guy in the back trying to hide behind his IPhone). We cannot do this without a team of people in the theater. None of the jobs require experience - all we need is a body. Preferably a warm one, but we're not that picky.

This week is costume check week.  Please have your child wear his/her costume to rehearsal today, tomorrow and saturday (if, of course, they have one. some costumes are still being fine tuned). This is vital - we want to make sure the costume fits properly as soon as possible. Nothing worse than finding out a costume is too big/small/torn on the night before the performance....well, there ARE worse things (1st performance is on tax day), but let's not think about that right now.....

Saturday March 12th is Dress Rehearsal day!

Saturday March 19th is Picture day!

I'm going to post forms and makeup links ... but right now, I have to run!

TTFN, and remember - life is NOT a dress rehearsal!
